Thoughts people? I've recently had an issue with approving a 5 minute long DJ mix - personally I'm not in favour of approving it for this site based sheerly on the length (saying nothing of quality or skill).
What are your thoughts?

I'm with you Ollie. No offence to the dj but I think 5 mins is a bit short for a house mix. I believe in letting tunes breath and leaving time for people to listen to the work these producers have put into them. I really don't believe in chopping and changing tunes every 30 seconds or so unless your a hip hop dj in a battle or something. Don't get me wrong I do appreciate the skill in it and I got destroyed in a final of a dj battle before by a hip hop dj with immense skill.

Let the market decide. I imagine the comments witl address the point of brevity and the overwhelming eloquence or pointlessness that has accompanied the five minutes. Let Freedom Ring (Five minutes is shorter than even the lamest snooze button (on my current alarm clock).

I could, of course, let it onto the site, but I wonder if it dilutes the quality - i feel it would, and it's the same reason i don't approve mixes that fall outside of what I feel is the accepted range of styles...

I think a 5 min mix is a remarkable step forward and will benefit producers hugely, from now on they only need create 30 second long tunes. It also gives us the 30 minute night out, no messing about. Problem, those "old school" DJ's, cast underground with their hideous 15 minute mega mixes, won't go quietly.......

As an addition to this conversation, if 5 minute mixes make an appearnce hear I would struggle with the ethos of PureHouseMusic.net. I'm struggling with the question and conversation Ollie.

It probably sets a bad precedent.

Look I just wanted to see what the "elders" thought - I sometimes question myself on these things, don't want to play the dictator role too much but seems I'm on the right course - thank chaps and sorry Mr DJ - the mix isn't going to float this time
