Donna Summer "Dim All the Lights"

I have a huge softspot for this song:

a. Donna wrote all by her lonesome

b. It was on a great house tape a friend gave me in the eighties where he mixed it over the instrumental of "Can u Feel It"

c. Laura Branigran got some proper post-eighties acknowledgement for her phenomenal voice when she covered it (Laura is no longer with us: she died a few years back).

Everything we're going to be hearing is in Donna's greatest hits and the Bad Girls album in particular: I highly suggest you all give a fresh listen. Trust me, I heard all this stuff first time around and yet it's all sounding musically fresh despite all the hooks being tattooed on my brain! "MacArthur Park" which I previously hated is now sinking in as well... The opening of MacArthur Park is practically a blueprint for the latest Rasmus Farber album, which deserves a listen as well...

what are YOU listening to right now?

I just picked up Tosca - no hassle and have been listening to it in my shower (since we got it rennovated I asked for speakers to be mounted in the ceiling, best thing ever!)
It's a very laid back lounge vibe, Tosca are aka Richard Dorfmeister and Rupert Huber, vry tasty...

My conscience telling me NOT to attempt humour with anything from the last two posts...

I can only imagine Ollie's disco shower and the added hazard imposed by dancing and dropped bars of soap...

Ewan's latest mix and GUM w/Diamond Dancer "all this love for you (whatever remix Ewan used...)"

another thing that Jimpster did first on the Amour album (spoken word with Diamond Dancer. Jimpster did "A Love Like This"

"Lowdown" by Boz Scaggs. I've been carrying on sumptin fierce with the Silk Degrees album for over a year now. They don't do it like this no more, which is sad 'cause this iz exactly how I like it.

"You ain't got to be so bad
Ain't got to be so cold
this Dog eat Doggy business sure is gettin' old

Got to have a Jones for this
Jones for that
This runnin with the Jones''s boy
Just ain't where it's at."

sorted.

Damn You BIS you just gave me Jones for something and made me a hipocrite!

But I'm playing -

Ripple "The Beat Goes On and On"

and it's my fave ever Salsoul track: I used to listen to it for Kitsch factor and the bass and the wonderful Rattle-effect. Now I listen to it because it's just one of the most amazing fucking records ever made (with a phenomenal mix by Jim Burgess). THIS is how you record and mix a kicking track that will outlast years and fads!!

Robert Palmer: "Johnny and Mary"

Palmer was one of the great restless souls: his versions of "You are in my system" and "didn't mean to turn you on" are eternally tied with the originals in my mind. "Johnny and Mary" and "Looking for Clues" are gettting to me today.
