I know this is a big call, but I'm throwing this out for compilation of the year (well thus far anyway!).

Such a refreshing release.... these guys take you on a magical journey through some hybrid sounds that brings together a perfect mix-up (i hate the term mash-up) of live indie instruments and vocals layered with ambient landscapes and driven by deep and dark techy beats.

I'm loving the rollercoaster ride M.A.N.D.Y. take us on, shifting through cross-over genres, with regular shifts in bpms and breaking all the rules that apply to the standard DJ mixed CD - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 5 stars

Anything and everything by Vick Lavender that I can get my hands on. Today it's been "Take me with you" on endless repeat. Primitive Chicago House love meets real R&B musicianship somewhere in time.

The Yore Captain returns to his own Yore Imprint on the Labels 21st Release. “Shadow City” presents different visions of funky house grooves. The A side's “The Why Theme” gets deeply moving with a funky house pulse before stoking the fire with the addition of speaking voices (trippingly intoning the Q&A “What are we doing this for?” and “The music”), a move which single-handedly jumpstarts the track. After the voices appear, the groove's intensity escalates and plunges deeper, its gyroscopic house swing becoming more dizzying and torrential with each passing bar before coming to an acidy storming end. In its opening moments, “Shadow City” opts for a deeper and more serenading vibe by comparison, but that's traded in for a slinkier attack at the three-minute mark that grows progressively more ferocious as the track makes its drastic upwards ascent. A Trippin’ dangerous weapon to say the least. Watch your Heads! The B side's B2 track, “Mumbai Dweller” keeps the focus primarily on the bottom end, specifically a strutting tribal-house funk groove that's dragged even deeper by a throbbing bass undertow, adding Dark Chords to it, giving this EP a Darker Feeling towards the end. Black Coffee ft Tshepo "I Never Saw You Coming", this was a major breakthrough tune for Black Coffee, first out on Ralf Gumms GOGO Music in 2009 and subsequently released on Soulistic with a just perceptable rerub for 2010, the tune has become hard to find. The 2010 release was scheduled for October availability but was in the Afrodesia catalogue before feedback on the promos was compiled. Anyway here's a link to the tune on youtube.
