Sydney techno DJ and producer, Biz, is well known by most people in the dance community. Not only does he own and operate his own record store, he has also been contributing a column in local street press magazine, 3D World, for many many years now. I would always take pleasure in reading his little column, and remember a year or 2 ago he mentioned he had started his own digital only label, Cliq. Biz was always known as something of a vinyl purist, so for a few months he continually explained the reasons he was converting. He also continually gave insight into his progress on such audio programs such as Reason. And on Juno Download, you can find the fruits of all these hours spent in the studio. What you immediately take note of when listening to his various productions is that you can tell he spends a lot of time on each and every track, getting every minute detail just the way he wants it. Many cool ingredients go into his productions, not least the inventive, clever drum programming. One quick way to produce cookie-cutter music is to start with forumlaic, sampled drum loops. This track on display is certainly one of Biz' more straight up 4/4 beats, but i connect with the melancholic feel of the synths and male vocals. Have a listen to the rest of the EP though, and you'll know what i mean about the thoughtful production.
