Interview with Bryan Tappert by Ollie Brooke

PHM First up I'd like to welcome you to PureHouseMusic.net and thank you for taking the time to do this interview Brian.

BT - Np...its a pleasure.

PHM As one of the leaders of the US house scene you've seen a lot of changes and developments over the years, what would you say is the most important change the house scene has had in the last 5 years?

BT The biggest development by far would have to be the digital revolution we are currently experiencing. From the hardware and software that DJ's use to the way they get their music. literally everything has changed.

PHM You still pursue a very healthy DJ career, what is the main reason you play music for other people? What do you hope they can get out of it?

BT For me it's always been about participating in the scene we make records for. As a producer and a label. my job is to make records that are relevant.and i like to to keep a finger on what's going on. Plus. its part of who I am now. as I have been playing music for people in clubs for over 20 years.

PHM Your label, Soulfuric Records, continues to grow in popularity and range of tracks, would you agree that there is a recent resurgence in the house scene, both in the US and around the world?

BT I would like to think so, however I feel the biggest problem we are facing is repopulating the scene with fresh young people. Marc and I have been making records for over 10 years and we have noticed a lot of people are getting older, having kids, they don't go out much or at least are not buying as much music. With the electro craze in Europe in recent times it seems to me the younger kids are either into hip hop or the latest trendy house sound.

PHM As a DJ & producer who has "made it" what advice would you give to up & comers who want to crack the scene?

BT Develop your sound. don't be in a rush. Take your time and make the best music you possibly can, and make sure you have fun ! To much music today is just thrown together and someone should have said go back and tighten it up.

PHM "Old" people always whinge about how this music we love is "all doof doof doof", what do you think will be the music of the future that makes us whinge?

BT I hope its house music :)

PHM Finally, Brian, in 15 words or less define house music!

BT Its music made for the dance floor, sometimes its musical sometimes it bangin. but it always makes you move.
