Chuck Daniels, original rudeboy from Detroit, Michigan. Owner of the Sampled Recordings and releases on the English Mobiletrax and Magnetic- and Oomph recordings of his good friend dj Sneak. Before his gig at Bumb in' Chicago in Rotterdam on the 6 th of October, DJ Swan asked him a few short questions.
Did you always want to be an artist as a child?
Well I cant say I have always wanted to be an artist, but I always have had a great love for music, it has always been something I have been drawn to from an early age.
Are you satisfied with your career so far? What would you do different if you could go back into the time?
I am very happy to come this far in life doing what I love and am very anxious to see where my career will take me. If I could go back I would probably have liked to start producing music at an earlier stage.
How was your American Night Moves tour? Where did you play?
The American tour has been great. There is still definitely a love for house music. I had great gigs at San Francisco, Dallas, Miami, Orlando, Detroit, Los Angeles, Montreal and elsewhere in Canada.
Last year you were quite busy. You released a few remixes and an e.p., and you just released your Night Moves-mixalbum. Are there some other things coming up we should know about?
Yes, there's an e.p. as 'Border Patrol' with Jason Hodges coming up. A remix for Detour, some original music for a new label in the u.k. owned by the Special Interest Boys, and there are definitely some more collaborations with friends like Slater Hogan and dj Sneak coming up.
You just released your first mixalbum ‘Night Moves' on Oomph recordings. You've been a staple of the undergroundhouse scene for quite a while, why did it take so long before you released your first mix album?
Good Question! HAHAHA! Usually in order for a mix like this to come out it takes money. Most artists can't do it on their own, so it usually takes a label to help or manufacture the product. I was lucky enough to finally have a label stand behind what I was doing!
You're doing a little European tour. Do you think there are differences between the European and American scene? If yes, which?
Sure there is definitely a difference. But I think overall, no matter where you go people appreciate good music. I think if u - as an artist - have talent, and can read a crowd it's easy to adapt.
Ever been in the Netherlands before?
Nope...
Coming weekend you're playing at the B.U.M.B. in Rotterdam and in Maastricht at the Ipanema. What are your expectations of the Dutch crowd?
Getting back to the question above. I think if you have confidence in what you're doing it will show. And people will recognise it for sure. And never forget: there are only 2 kinds of music in this world. Its good music and bad music!
